Paul Van Nuland – BCHT Driver Guide

Accredited London Tour Guide

I’m a born and bred Londoner and have lived and worked within this great city for the majority of my life (the exception being a 4 year stint in Switzerland), previously working within Royal Mail followed by the Global Foreign Exchange Markets.

I am now a fully qualified London ‘Cabbie’, qualified taxi guide and a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers (the 104th Livery company of the City of London). I am proud to offer private and personal tours of London and beyond in an ICONIC London black cab, neither of which I ever thought I would be doing, but I can wholeheartedly say two of the best decisions I have possibly made in my working life.

Firstly becoming a ‘London Cabbie’ gave me the new challenge and freedom I needed and then from there getting involved in offering tours, I honestly fell in love with my hometown again whilst doing the knowledge, and showing the sights of this fantastic city and creating wonderful memories on my tours is hard to beat.

My aim is to give YOU the tour that YOU want, when YOU want, always keeping in mind that it is YOUR vacation and YOUR memories, and to show you the history of London (and beyond), both the famous and lesser known sites in a fun and relaxed manner.

  • Fantastic tour and gracious driver
I have to preface this review with the our travel story: our flight from Pittsburgh to Toronto was deleted by 3 hours, we missed our connecting flight, had to stay over on Toronto, got hardly any sleep on the plane and the airline lost some of our luggage. The tour company accommodated a change in our tour start time. With all that said, it was a fantastic tour, and what a gracious driver!
We had Paul Van Nuland as our driver and he really made the tour for us. We scheduled our tour for the day after we were to arrive in London, however with the aforementioned delays, our tour started about 15 minutes after we checked into our hotel.
Paul was aware of the delays as we communicated via email with the company. He had cold waters for us in the back and when he asked what was most important for us to see and we were all a bit too exhausted to figure anything out, he started us on our way. We completely left everything in his hands.
He took us pretty much everywhere we would want to go. We started at the South Bank of the Thames and stopped at the rebuilt Globe theatre. We walked about while he gave us a history of the building, and the American who rebuilt it. We walked on the Millennium Bridge, discussed the Harry Potter movies and opening scenes (yes we love Harry Potter) and went to the top of the Tate for some amazing views.
Throughout the tour we talked about the importance of the Thames, the shipping industry, and much of the history of the areas near the river. We also discussed Charles Dickens, drove through the areas of London where he based his characters from, and being a history buff and coming from a city with major river industry, this was the highlight of the tour for me.
We went to the Tower of London, walked about the outside, discussed how the beefeaters are chosen and how they live, and of course the many many beheadings.
We were exhausted and a bit cranky, and Paul kept us engaged, kept us interested, and kept us entertained.
I would highly recommend this company and definitely suggest asking for Paul. He could not have made our first day in London any better

  • Great Tour
It was a great personalized tour. My driver, Paul Van Nuland, not only showed me the standard sites people want to see in London, he listened to my requests and then took the experience to the next level. I would definitely use him again.

  • We had a wonderful stay in London and Paul was a major contributor to that. We arrived at 6:35 in the morning. Paul was there to greet us at the airport to begin our London Highlight Tour adventure. The classic London Black cab was extremely clean and comfortable. Paul even had cold bottled water and soda for us. He was patient, extremely informative and fun. He has a great sense of humor and personality and was a joy to spend our first four hours in London with. There was no question asked or request made that he could not accommodate. This is by far one of the best ways to see London!!

Black Cab Heritage Tours is Good to Go!

At Black Cab Heritage Tours we place the highest priority on the health and welfare of our customers, team and the wider community. This is particularly the case during the current COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.  It may be a little while before our guests arrive from overseas, as the UK Government recently announced the current 14-day quarantine period remains in place for inbound tourists - to be reviewed every 3 weeks.  We have, however, started to offer a limited number of private tour options as of Saturday 4 July, initially to singles, couples and small nuclear family groups - and we continue to accept future reservations.

Our approach is in line with the most recent guidance issued by the UK government, and additional advice from the World Health Organisation. We have also put in new health and safety measures in order to promote social distancing and to limit all non-essential face-to-face contact, which has been recognized by Visit Britain as "Good to Go!"
